My work
I split my time between the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic studies (AMI), where I mainly work, and the Clinical Analysis of Language Samples (CALS) project, where I work part-time in the University of Iceland’s team.

At the AMI, I do a lot of development and data work in the institute's NLP team. I also dabble in front-end work where I can, most recently in rebooting the institute's Natural Language Processing Platform and its accompanying API, which I am very proud of.

As a part of the University of Iceland's team, I work in the Clinical Analysis of Languge Samples (CALS) project, developing different methods to evaluate linguistic complexity in Icelandic language samples, gathered in clinical settings.

Back when I was fresh out of university, I took part in the University of Iceland Language and Tech Lab role in the government sponsored Language Technology Programme for Icelandic as a front-end developer.

As part of that, I worked closely with Miðeind ehf's grammar and spelling correction team, on plugins which used their Yfirlestur.is API (this is where I got really good at React). Our products didn't make it to market, but I we did important R&D work for the topic of Icelandic error correction.

I've written a handful of research papers over the last few years, as Google Sholar profile attests to.

I've been involved in the Icelandic Universal Dependencies scene since 2019, when I worked on UDConverter. Since then, I've taken part in the creation or maintenance of most of the Icelandic UD treebanks, and one of the Faroese UD treebanks.

I've also done some teaching: I designed and taught the advanced course MLT803F Language Technology and Small Language Communities during the spring semester of 2022 at the University of Iceland. Before that I tought ÍSL333G Programming for the humanities, an intro programming course for research in the Humanities, during the fall semester of 2021.

My studies
My background is in lingustics. I did my BA at the University of Iceland in 2018, where I wrote a pretty cool thesis on the noun-forming suffix -ar- in Faroese, supervised by dr. Einar Freyr Sigurðsson. My interestes included generative syntax, speech and language pathology and a healthy bit of comparative and histortical linguistics (a guilty pleasure).
I started my studies at the language technology master’s program at the University of Iceland in 2018. During this time I took a year abroad, where I studied at the Computational Linguistics department at the University of Tübingen, which I am very greatful for. I finished my degree during the first big Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, while in Germany, which is an experience I will never forget. My thesis on PoS tagging Faroese with BiLSTMs was supervised by dr. Anton Karl Ingason. My main focuses were on corpus linguistics in general but I also took various courses on artifical intelligence applications and machine learning.
